Update Time!

Ok internet people! Here's the latest running update! First off, the good stuff...I'm down 3 lbs! I had set a loose 5lbs goal for this month and I think I might actually hit it!

Ok on to the running updates.

September 18th run I did on the 19th as it was a barn day on the originally scheduled day. The run itself was pretty good. I did 5.91 km in 51:07 with an average pace of 8:39 min/km. Calorie burn was just over 400.

I ran again on the 20th for a regularly scheduled run. This one was a speed run. It had me do 10 mins fast, walk 5, 20 mins fast. Was a pretty good run. I managed 4.19 km in 30:05 with an average pace of 7:11 min/km. Calorie burn was just under 300. Felt good to run fast!

September 23rd run was pretty good too, it was off schedule due to a wedding I went to over the weekend but we got it in just one day late. This one was a 40 min slow run. I did 6.67 km in 1 hour...the last 15 mins was walking...average pace was 9 min/km and calorie burn was just under 450 calories. This one felt good, I was relaxed, weather was good and it was just a wonderful day to be outside.

The next run was the next day on the 24th (yesterday). This one was a 20 minute tempo run. I was a bit confused when the app started as it told me to do 20 minutes steady but online it says 20 mins tempo...no matter I ran it as a tempo run anyway. I ran 3.68 km in 25:19 with an average pace of 6:53 burning almost 260 calories. This one has a bit of an interesting story to it because of the route I took. The very first time I ran this route it took me 50 minutes...this time I ran it in 25!! The first run on this route was my first day of the Couch to 5k app by FeltTip. I had basically just started running...and it only took me almost half of the program to realize that no matter which direction I take it I end up running uphill for the first half. /facepalm

I sadly have not been out to ride in the past week as the wedding I attended on the weekend was on a lesson day and my running is getting in the way of my riding. I think I'll start running on my lunch breaks at work so I can ride with daylight in the evenings. Or *gasp* get up early to run. /shudder

Anyway, that's all the updates I have for now.

Laters all.

Running, Results Already?

Holy moly I forgot how much I loved running! I have not missed a run yet! Woohoo go me! I even managed to ride 3 days last week. I was trying for 4 but the Thursday life happened and I just couldn't make it work. :(The same thing happened yesterday. Darn you life!) But anyhoo, here's the summaries of my workouts since my last post:

September 12 was a 30 min run. I managed 4.61 km in 38:37 mins with an average pace of 8:23 min/km. Calorie burn was 313. Life happened this day so I didn't manage a ride but the run was great.

September 14 was another 30 min run. This one was 5.4 km in 45:40 with an average pace of 8:28 min/km and 377 calories burned. It was a nice enough run. Nothing special that I can remember right now.

September 15th was my barn day. Had a pretty good lesson on Lily bear. She was behaving herself so it was nice. We managed to get a flying lead change accidentally...I wanted her to trot..she didn't' want to...so she came into a VERY collected canter and did a very nice flying lead change. Buut since I wasn't asking her to do that I couldn't even reward her or make a big happy deal about it. I had to make her trot still. Oh well at least now we know she can do them.

September 16th (yesterday) was my first non 30 minute run. I managed This one was a bit of speed work. It consisted of a 5 min warm up then alternating 3 minutes of running fast with 3 minutes of slow recovery. I did 5 sets and was pretty pooped after. The 'fast' sections were the pace my legs naturally want to go so it was easy to settle into. It was hard to maintain though...my body can't quite do that speed yet so it was a good workout. The recovery speed was quite slow...pretty ploddy but I needed to be able to catch my breath and lower my heart rate in just 3 minutes. Was a nice run all in all. I think I'm going to like speed work!

September 18th's run falls on my barn day so I will be doing that run tonight. It's a 40 minute slow run which will be really slow since I ran yesterday and don't want to strain anything.

So I weighed myself this morning, I have been kind of hopping on the scale every other day or so for the past few weeks just so make sure I'm at least maintaining at my current weight. Well this morning I got on the scale for the first time in a few days and I'm down a pound! Thinking the scale was lying to me I also took my waist measurement and I'm down an inch just from the past 2 weeks! I was under 29'' in my waist for the first time in a few years! Go me! *fistpump

Anyhoo that's all for now.

Running and Riding like crazy!

Oh my how time sure does fly by when you're busy!. Since the Jillian Michaels thing was a bust I figured I would just go back to doing what I love, running and riding. I have been alternating running and riding days every day for the past week and so far I'm loving it!

I'm working through the Running 4 Fat Loss training plan that Runkeeper.com has and man am I loving it. I was a bit intimidated starting off as it starts me at running for 30 mins straight. I have not been running much lately and wasn't sure I could do it. Before the plan was set to start I ran about 20 mins just to test the feet and knees. That run went really well. Here's a summary of my workouts since my last update:

Wednesday the 4th was my riding day, so I was working at the barn and then had a jumping lesson.
Lily was being a bit of a butt as this was her first ride since before my holidays. We made it through the lesson just fine though. Run Stats were: 3.68km's in 36:52 with an average pace of 10:02 and 229 calories burned.

Thursday the 5th was my 20 min run which, after looking back at my log, was actually a 30 min run. It was a great run. My muscles felt great, cardio was still good and no joint or tendon pain anywhere. That night I signed up for the Running 4 Fat Loss training plan in Runkeeper.

Friday the 6th was a rest day, I think I spent it being social in some way but can't actually remember the details at this moment.

Saturday the 7th was another riding lesson. The first in a long time with my old instructor. We worked on the flat and it was quite a nice lesson in the end.

Sunday the 8th was the first run of the program. It was a very nice run! Loved every second of it and it felt effortless. Run Stats were 5.39 km's in 46:56, average pace was 8:42 and 349 calories burned.

Monday the 9th was a ride. Very nice ride! One of the girls at the barn bought her lesson horse! I could not be happier for her. If there was ever anyone deserving of a horse it was this young lady! We had a very nice ride together. :D

Tuesday the 10th was another run. It was date night so I felt a little bit rushed as I was making my man wait for me to run before we went out to dinner. I think it was worth it even if he may not have. Run Stats were: 4.9 km's in 39:58 with an average pace of 8:10 and 331 calories burned. This run was difficult. I found myself needing to keep remembering to slow down. My ankle was a bit tender but not to the point of pain. Just made me aware that I needed to take it easy.

Wednesday the 11 th (yesterday) was another ride and it was fantastic. We were doing some gymnastic work. So fun! If you haven't done this type of work with your horse I strongly suggest you do so. At the end of the night we were working on lead changes and Lily, silly mare, did a flying change! When she was fighting me no less! She had picked up the wrong lead and wouldn't come back to a trot for me. While I was arguing with her to come back to me she popped smoothly into the other lead. I see what'cha did there Lily. Well played. lol

Overall it has been a great week exercise wise. Here's to a repeat in the week coming up.

Bye for now.

Last Weekend of Holidays and First Week Back at Work

Ok so here it is, the last weekend of holidays update. The Saturday consisted of driving to a neighboring town to pick up my cousin. We then drove to another town to attend her moms (my Aunts) birthday party. It started off like many other birthday parties in my past and ended like many.

We stared with having drinks at her house. A couple of coolers and facebook posts later we headed out to dinner. Ate waaay too much food, had some more drinks and had a shot or two. After dinner we decided to walk to the next location which was quite a few blocks away. Somewhere along the way on our walking we came across some random balloons. Who leaves random balloons laying in the street? And further more..who picks up said balloons and insists that they be tied up into her hair? My aunt is a classy lady. :D We ended up in a pool hall and a few more drinks and a few rounds of pool we moved onto our last location.

On the way to the last bar, slightly perturbed that I was still sober, we stopped at a liqueur store to pick up some more shots (to do on the way...hehe). A few blocks, shots, and cop avoidances later we made it to our last location of the evening. Some random bar, where we got shit service and left without leaving a tip. /sigh

After said lame bar we decided to walk the 10+ blocks back home...which actually ended up being decently fun aside from my decision to wear my aunts heels home...they were killing her feet...within 10 minutes I understood why. I made it about halfway and gave up, walking home barefoot for the rest. Oh well. :D

That's the conclusion of my holidays. :D Hard to believe it was only a week ago now. I feel like I have been back at it forever now.

The first week back at work was as stressful and busy as I anticipated but in the end I got most of the work done that I needed to do. Most, but not all. :(

Anyhoo that's all I have for now.

Stay posted for my first couple runs back into the training program.

Laters for now.

Bah!

Ok so after the third failed attempt to do the 30 Day Shred thing I just can't seem to remember to do it everyday. Not going to try it again just yet. Going to start running again instead. Much more flexible and doesn't have to be done everyday which allows for life to happen.

Now that that piece of information is out of the way let me update you on the rest of my holidays! The 2 days that followed my last holiday post were filled with yummy foods, teaching my dog to catch a disk (which is still a work in progress) and reading...copious amounts of reading! On day 4 of holidays I took Tuli for a 2.5 hour long walk on the trails around my mom's house...holy crap there are a good amount of trails in her small neighboring campsite! I could have stayed out there all day! I happened upon the most beautiful beach while we were out. It was a natural beach that wasn't used all that often. So pretty with it's sandy, grassy vastness. The only footprints on it that day were mine and Tuli's. The only downside that I could see was that the shoreline in the area was marshy/reedy which is probably why the beach was not used. Their loss! The next time I'm up there I'm going to take a book out there to read. :D When Mom got home we capped the day off with a fire and some drinks in the back yard.

The Thursday consisted of reading on the deck in the sunshine. Around 2 or so I kind of noticed that I could smell smoke but didn't really think anything of it. About an hour later a deer happened to crash through my mom's woodpile knocking it over. When I walked over to re-stack it I found the reason for the fire. Mom's fire pit had ignited a root underneath it that proceeded to burn out the side and into the yard a little ways! Holy moly talk about scary! What if I hadn't been there? Mom was packing that evening and was going to be packing the next evening too. I doubt she would have noticed it before she went on her holidays! Eeek!

It took me 2 hours with a garden hose to get the fire out. By the time I was done the fire pit was completely dismantled and the roots exposed/dug up slightly. Mom and I spent the rest of the day digging out the root system under it and rebuilding it. The victory fire was the best fire ever. She has a lower, smaller pit but this one is safe at least.

Overall I'm sad that my holidays are over but I have another week off coming up before the wedding to recharge again. Should be a wonderful thing.

Stay posted for an update on my last weekend before going back to work!

Bye for now. :D

OMG HOLIDAYS!!

Yay I am finally on holidays! I managed to do pretty much nothing on my first day.

I had some tea, tasty scrambled eggs with salsa and started a new fluffy read book.

Tea, scrambled eggs with peppers and cheese topped with salsa and the new read.

The reading continued into a nice lunch, sitting on the deck. It was a little bit chilly to I was wrapped up in a blanket the whole day. Totally worth it.
Tasty snack, mini breton crackers and green grapes.

Took the dog down to the lake for a quick dip after I finished the book. Very pretty view!

Finished it with making a lasagna with ichiban noodles instead of lasagna noodles. It was so freaking tasty! Pictures and recipe to come for that!

All in all a great day 1. Many more relaxing days were to come which I will post at a later time.

Laters for now.

Yay road trip!

Today's the day! Road tripping to my mom's! She will be here at my house in about an hour, we are all going to head out for lunch and then we are off! 6.5 hour drive until I'm relaxing in a hammock with a good book. /sigh I really need this holiday.

This week I'm going to start the couch the 10k running plan as well as continuing the shredding and playing with my dog as much as possible. Oh and swimming...will def be swimming!

Oh man I can't freaking wait!

More woman ass kickage.

So sore from my riding lesson last night. I counted it as a shred, my legs burned more during that lesson than they do from shred anyway. :D Tonight is going to be Day 4 of level 1. I'm not sure how I"m going to work it in. My dog needs a walk today so that will take about an hour or so. We are also going to fireworks tonight which will take the rest of the evening.

I think I"ll just shred when I get home. I sleep so good after it that I  don't mind exercising right before bed.

Woman, you are kicking my ass!

/bow Jillian Michaels you have kicked my ass...I was so sore after shred last night that I wasn't able to put my hair up in a braid...must be working! I have yet to take my before measurements...must do that tonight...and shred...must shred too. /shudder Oh and apparently the "weights" I have been using are about 2lbs each.

Riding tonight should be interesting...

30 Day Shred, Day 1

Day 1 of my second try of doing Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred was yesterday. Ok ouch! This is painful on my poor noodle arms with weights. Note to self...buy proper weights as water bottles get slippery as you sweat.Overall it was harder than the last time I was doing it but when I think about it I have been doing nothing but just ride in the past 6 weeks. No wonder I'm struggling. Not much extra muscle work going on lately.

My starting weigh going in was 153 and at 5'4" that puts me about 10lbs overweight and 20lbs from where I want to be. I'm going to try not to weigh for a month buut we'll see if I manage it.

I have yet to take my starting measurements, I'll likely do that tonight before we go for sushi.

This week my fiance and I are celebrating our 4 year anniversary. Sushi dinner and Elysium are our plan I think. Should be tasty/awesome. Can't wait for the popcorn!!

Anyhoo I'll shred when I get home from the movie. My poor muscles are sore right now so it should be an interesting session. lol

Later's all

Wow the wedding is sneaking up.

I'm entering the last 2 months before the wedding...and feeling pretty shitty about my lack of progress. It is my own fault. I eat too much and move to little. In the past 2 weeks I have managed to start to control my portion sizes. I'm eating half of what I was eating a month ago. I need to move more which is coming slowly.

I'm riding 3 days a week right now. I"m going to re-start 30 Day Shred, and stick with it. I'm going to follow it with insanity. Time to crack down and do this. NO EXCUSES. 30 Day Shred HAS TO HAPPEN!

I was watching Extreme Makeover and this episode just really speaks to me. The woman is an emotional eater and struggles with portion control. Sounds familiar...for the portion control anyway. I don't tend to eat my feelings, thank goodness! Here's the episode:

So tonight will be Day 1, Week 1, 30 Day Shred take 2. No excuses.I'm going to shred on days that I don't ride, or have an easy ride. So almost every day of the week.

I will log after every day I do the shred though. And after every ride or run.

G'night for now bloggerverse.

Hrm..girl crush?

Hi All.

Not much has been happening here lately. Been riding quite a bit except for last week. I was in such a funk I only rode once and didn't run at all. I actually haven't been running lately. For some reason I feel like trying to juggle running and riding is overwhelming. I really wanted to train for a half marathon for sometime in the fall but I just can't dedicate the time to training just yet. I find that the more I focus on running the less I focus on riding and lets face it, if I ever had to choose to run or to ride, running would not win. lol

So here I sit, not running, not riding, just blogging while listening to my fiances cousin talking downstairs with thunder rumbling quietly outside the window. We have a doozie of a storm coming according to the weather network in our area. Lets see if I comes to fruition or not. We seem to be under severe thunderstorm warnings more often than not these days but they don't usually turn into anything in our part of the city.

Riding has been good still. Lily went through a phase where she was trying to buck me off but she seems to be over it finally. She got a few weeks off when our city flooded. We had a refugee staying with us for a week and then we went camping so Lily bear got a well deserved break and it seemed to help her relax.

On an unrelated note, I have this obsession with youtube...and it has helped me realize I freaking love Miranda Lambert's music. What a freaking awesome singer! Her songs strike a very special cord in me. The House That Built Me is such a good freaking song. /endgirlcrush

Anyhoo I have ran out of things to talk about so I'd better call it done.

I'll leave you with my fav Miranda Lambert song so far.

Why hello blog that I forgot I had!!

Hey all,

Have you ever had one of those days where you have a half an hour left in your workday, not enough to start another project but too much to just go home so you start surfing the web? Well today was one of those days and imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon my own blog from over a year ago! I forgot I even made this blog! hrm...I guess I'm not great at this whole blogging thing.

Oh well, here I am a year later, a year wiser ( or not ) a year older (or not :P) and not a whole lot has changed. I finished my education and got my degree. Started planning my wedding, ran a 5k, bought a horse, and well, that's about it!

Just thought I would get my typing fingers going again so that's the quick update. Maybe I will start blogging on here more. I do have a great appreciation for bloggers and it's a passion of mine to read other peoples blogs so I may as well keep on with my own even if  I don't update it often.

Anyhoo, that's all for now.
